History of Roulette

Roulette is a widely popular game in online casinos and around the world. Blaise Pascal, a French scientist, introduced the original version of Roulette in the 17th century after an attempt to create a device that has perpetual motion. The modern version of the game was first played in Paris in 1796. Roulette which means “little wheel” in French, enjoys higher popularity in Europe than in the US, mostly because European Roulette offers greater odds of winning. The betting system in roulette allows players to gamble by placing chips on any particular number, number range, one of two colors or wager money on whether the winning number will be even or odd.

In American Roulette, the wheel is made up of 38 numbered slots as opposed to 37 slots in European roulette. The slots are numbered 1 through 36, a 0 and a 00. In the European version, 00 does not exist. The croupier turns the wheel in a certain direction and pushes the ball into a circular track in the opposite direction. The ball eventually slows down and lands in one of the numbered spaces. The slot into which the ball finally lands is the triumphant number. Players can choose between placing outside bets which are higher in probability and as a result have a lower payout rate or placing bets on specific numbers ‘inside’ increasing the potential payout significantly but decreasing the overall odds.
