History of Videopoker

Video poker was introduced around the mid-1970s when personal computers were becoming more of household item. Video Poker combines the features of table games and slot machines to deliver a set of exciting poker games. In 1970, Poker-Matic, the first video poker machine was introduced, which remained popular in casinos until SIRCOMA (now known as International Game Technology) came up with a new machine called Draw Poker. Video poker is easy to learn and the house has no hidden edge. It is a fair game of drawing five cards and replacing them, if necessary with the cards dealt from a virtual deck.

There are several variations of video poker. The most commonly played games are Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild and Tens or Better. Similar to traditional communal poker, the person playing the video version aims for the highest hand. The player cannot raise, call or bluff as in communal traditional poker; the automated system gives a payout if the player’s hand matches any of the winning hands listed in the pay schedule. If a hand contains ace, king, queen, jack and 10 of the same suit, it is known as a royal flush, and the player lands the jackpot. The pay structure may vary from one game to game to another.
