When we venture into something new in our lives, we like to be well-prepared. It is in our nature to try to inform ourselves about whatever new we plan to do in order to make it easier for us to rise to the challenges we are faced with. Many players start their poker career by playing for play money or playing freerolls. After a while, there is an urge to start to play for real money, to make it to the top – to be a winner.

However, as we continue to play, we notice that some players are winners and that others keep on making the wrong choices and losing. We might at first chalk it up to short-term luck, but be assured – luck is only a minor aspect of the game. There are many players who play night after night, chalking up a solid long-term profit.

Why?

Because poker is a game of skill. The element of chance is always present, making it exciting to continue playing no matter how long we have been in the business.
