Snooker World Championship history
The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield has hosted the World Snooker Championship every year since 1977. The 2020 World Snooker Championship begins on Saturday, 18th April, and finishes on Monday, 4th May. You can join the Snooker World Championship betting before the tournament or as the competition unfolds.
The 2020 World Snooker Championship will consist of 32 players, competing in a knock-out format. 16 of the players qualify automatically and are seeded. The number one seed is the winner of the previous year’s tournament. Seeds 2-15 are assigned according to the snooker world rankings. The remaining slots are filled by players who triumph in three pre-tournament qualifying rounds.
First round matches at the World Snooker Championship are contested over 19 frames, which are played across the course of two sessions. Players who reach the second round and quarter- finals then play the best of 25 frames across 3 sessions. The semi-finals and final consist of 33 and 35 frames respectively, over 4 sessions. We offer World Snooker Championship betting on every stage, match and frame.
World Championship betting favourites
Judd Trump beat John Higgins in last year’s final to become the 2019 World Snooker Championship winner.
Trump has been in red-hot form since his 2019 win, and has equalled the record for most ranked trophies won in a campaign (five). Trump aims to be the first man to beat the “Crucible Curse” and win two consecutive Worlds.
Other challengers include World Number Two and 2010 winner Neil Robertson, and 2019 finalist John Higgins. Higgins currently ranks as the world number five and has won four previous World Championships. And while five-time winner Mark Williams was eliminated in the second round last year, the World Number Three is a formidable competitor.
How to bet on snooker
You can bet on the outright World Snooker Championship winner, or on specific players to reach each stage. For example, you might back Mark Selby to reach the semi-finals.
If you don’t wish to pick the overall tournament winner, you can bet on individual matches. Or you could use an accumulator bet that combines your picks across individual matches into one collective bet.
Handicap betting changes the World Snooker Championship odds on each match by providing an adjusted outcome. The favourite might be 2.25 to win with a -3.5 handicap, which means that for you to bet on them and win, they would have to defeat their opponent by four or more frames. Their opponent would only have to trail by three frames or less for a bet that backed them to win.
If a match takes a surprise turn, you can bet In-Play as the World Snooker Championship odds shift. For example, if an unknown player is beating one of the favourites, you could bet live on that player to win the match outright, the current session, or just the next frame. Alternatively, you could back the pre-match favourite to make a comeback as the odds on him winning increase.
