When it comes to CFL betting odds, Canada's three-down game has its own quirks, from the bigger field and 12-man lineups to the rouge, so it pays to know the markets before you bet.

How to read CFL odds
When betting on the CFL, understanding the different odds formats is key to making informed decisions. At Betway, you’ll typically see decimal or fractional odds.
- Decimal odds show your total return per $1 staked, including your original bet. For example, odds of 3.00 mean a $10 bet would return $30. Learn more with decimal odds explained.
- Fractional odds, such as 2/1, indicate the profit relative to your stake - so a $10 bet at 2/1 would return $20 profit plus your stake.
Favourites carry a minus sign instead. A team at -150 (1.67) needs a $150 stake to win $100, so a $10 bet would return $16.67 in total, including your original stake. You can also read CFL football odds as an implied probability: -150 works out to about 60%, while +200 sits at around 33%. Those numbers are illustrative rather than live prices, but the math is the same on every CFL game we price.
Common types of CFL bets
Whether you prefer a straightforward game win/lose bet or to get your teeth into something a bit more strategic, there are loads of different types of CFL betting markets out there for you to pick from. Two of the most popular markets in CFL betting are under/over points and touchdowns. Alongside those, the moneyline and the point spread are the CFL football bets most people start with, and together with the total they make up the game lines you'll see on every matchup. CFL betting lines for the spread and total are set at half-point increments, so there's no chance of a push.
Most bets are similar to those in NFL betting, but there are some variations thanks to different rules and game structures. You can find more information in our CFL vs NFL breakdown.
Under/over points
If you prefer a simple bet with a bit of a twist, over/under points might be the market for you. The sportsbook will set a total number of points for both teams combined to score throughout the game and you decide whether you think they’ll score greater or fewer points than that line.
For example, if the line is 7.5 and you wager on the over, you’re betting that both teams combined will score at least 8 points in the game. If you bet on the under, you’re betting that both teams combined will score 7 or fewer points.
This can be the ideal bet if you’re not overly invested in a particular team in the game, or if you prefer the tactics and strategy of betting on the overall game dynamics. In practice, CFL totals usually land somewhere in the 40s or 50s, so a line like 48.5 is far more typical than 7.5, and both sides of the total are usually priced close to -110 (1.91).
Touchdowns
You can also choose from various markets based on the number of touchdowns throughout the game – for example, you could bet on who will score the first touchdown, whether the first touchdown-scorer will take the game or how many touchdowns a player or team will score throughout the game.
This creates dynamic, action-packed plays, perfect for strategists and tacticians! Touchdown scorer markets sit alongside our other CFL props, such as a quarterback's passing yards, if you'd rather back a player than a result.
CFL point spread betting
The point spread is handicap betting, CFL style. Rather than asking who wins, the spread asks whether a team wins by enough. Say the Argonauts are listed at -5.5 against the Alouettes: back Toronto and they must win by 6 or more for your bet to land, while Montreal at +5.5 covers if they win outright or lose by 5 points or fewer.
Both sides of the spread are usually priced close to -110 (1.91), so a $10 bet returns about $19.09 including your stake whichever side you take. Illustrative numbers again, but it shows why the spread is the great leveller in CFL football betting: a lopsided matchup with a moneyline favourite at -300 (1.33) becomes a near coin flip once the handicap is applied.
CFL live betting and in-play odds
The betting fun doesn't have to stop at kick-off: at Betway, we offer a wide range of in-play markets so you can keep betting as the action unfolds! Add another level of excitement as you watch the CFL odds update in real-time and make your move.
CFL live odds move with every drive. Once the game is under way you can bet on the moneyline, spread and total at prices that reflect the score and the clock, plus quarter and half markets such as the first-half winner, and next-score markets like whether the next points come from a touchdown, a field goal or a single. A team that opened as a -150 (1.67) favourite can drift out past +200 (3.00) after an early pick-six, then shorten again if they answer straight back.

What to look for in the best CFL betting sites
When comparing the best CFL betting sites, start with licensing: any sportsbook you use should be licensed and regulated, with its licence details published on the site. From there, check how many CFL markets are offered on a single game (spreads, totals, moneylines and props rather than just a winner), whether in-play betting and live odds are available, whether there's a mobile app, and what responsible gambling tools are provided, such as deposit limits. Betway is licensed and regulated and offers all of these.
